Can Drug Dogs Smell LSD

#pets_tuttorial #jane_brody #pet_blog #pet_training #pet_products_reviews #best_dog_products #best_cat_products

For years, dogs have been used to detect illicit substances and objects. Dogs are used to sniff out contrabands because they have more than 300 million olfactory receptors in their nose. As a result, they are able to sense smells 10,000 times better than human beings. Canines make an essential component of law enforcement because of their ability to be trained and they can be used to sniff out narcotics or contraband items.

Can Drug Dogs Smell LSD

Drug dogs can be found working at borders, customs, and airports. However, we have a wide range of illegal drugs available today. It is, therefore, good to know whether these dogs can smell LSD. Read on to get detailed information about drug dogs and their ability to sniff out LCD.

See also:

What is LCD?

LCD or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is also casually called acid. It is a powerful hallucinogen drug that is derived from lysergic acid, which is a fungus that thrives on grains such as rye.  LCD is also referred to as “lucy” or “dots.” A high that is caused by LCD is usually known as “trip.” Anyone who has used this drug to trigger a high will tell you that it usually takes the mind on a wild ride, although it is not always a good kind of high.

The trips caused by LCD have been described in all ways from a trip to the depths of hell or a spiritual awakening. Based on whether you had a good trip or a bad one, the afterglow will involve feeling unsettled and anxious or happy and energized. This entire phase may last for 6 to 15 hours and the effects may even linger on for days depending on the amount of acid you consumed.

Although this drug has undergone research to determine its potential therapeutic uses, in the United States, it still remains a Schedule I drug. This simply means that it is illegal to manufacture, distribute, and even possess LCD.

Does LCD have a Scent?

In its pure form, lysergic acid diethylamide or LCD does not have any smell and this is why the drug is undetectable even to drug dogs. LCD is also available in a liquid form that is colorless and odorless. This liquid is usually applied on blotted paper that is then cut into stamp-like circles or squares. The paper is then applied on the tongue allowing the drug to enter the bloodstream through the mucus membranes.

Can Dogs Smell LCD?

Can Drug Dogs Smell LSD

Most drug dogs may not be able to smell LSD. This is because LD is in low concentration and does not have any odor. However, there are a few highly trained sniffer dogs that can smell these acid tables by perceiving the scent of chemical impurities produced during the manufacturing process or they can smell the cross-contamination of forbidden narcotics.

Even in such cases, drug dogs may have challenges detecting acid tabs or LSD because they are trained to detect individual scents. The dog may be trained to detect a specific chemical impurity. Police dogs are usually trained to detect just 3 to 5 drugs and are mainly trained to give alerts on what is perceived as problem drugs. This includes drugs like marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Are Sniffer Dogs Trained to Smell Acid?

Can Drug Dogs Smell LSD 3

It is highly unlikely that you will find police dogs that have been trained to specifically detect and smell acid tabs or LSD.  This is a safe assumption to make because of a few good reasons. First, training a police dog to detect illicit drugs takes lots of time and effort. A dog can correctly and consistently alert authorities only after lots of time is spent and patience.

Secondly, it hard to believe that most custom forces or the police will put resources and effort so that their dogs can just smell acid. This seems like a waste of money, resources, and time. It is not financially viable to try training dogs to smoke out LSD or acid tabs.

Thirdly, because of the high demand for some drugs and their adverse impact on society, we can assume that most sniffer dogs will be trained to smell narcotics like heroin, cocaine, and amphetamines. Lastly, drug dogs are usually trained to smell 4 or 5 types of drugs. Therefore, it is safe to assume that these are the drugs that the government and society are mostly concerned with. There are very small chances that police dogs can smell LSD and acid tabs, however, this does not mean that it cannot happen, but it rarely occurs.

In a Wrap

LCD is an illegal drug and sniffer dogs can easily detect it. However, the only time that these dogs can smell acid tabs is if they have the necessary training to identify the chemical impurities resulting from its manufacturing process. However, this does not mean that sniffer dogs cannot detect acid tabs as they have been reports of police dogs nabbing these drugs. If dogs can precisely sniff out cancer cells in blood they will certainly smell any chemical impurities that are used in the production of LSD.

Can Dogs Eat Brussels Sprouts?

#pets_tuttorial #jane_brody #pet_blog #pet_training #pet_products_reviews #best_dog_products #best_cat_products

If somebody asked you to name one gross vegetable, most people will go for Brussels sprouts. These small vegetables are popularly known because of their strong smell and slightly bitter taste that turns many people off. However, when prepared properly these vegetables can be very tasty and delicious and they are packed with lots of nutrients.

Most people who enjoy Brussels sprouts may also want to give their dogs too. This article will give you all the information you need to know about these vegetables and whether they are good for your pooch.

Can You Give Your Dogs Brussels Sprouts?

Can Dogs Eat Brussels Sprouts

When served in moderation, Brussels sprouts are safe for pooches to eat. Brussels sprouts are closely related to broccoli since they all belong to the cruciferous vegetable family. They are a source of vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants that support the healthy growth of your dog.

Brussels sprouts also contain minerals such as manganese and potassium. Manganese is important as it helps the body to use carbohydrates and protein to give energy and build muscles. They also contain vitamin K that supports healthy bone growth, protects the heart, and helps the blood to clot properly.

Sprouts have antioxidant properties that lower the risks of cancer by eliminating free radicals. The antioxidants also help to lower inflammation and boost blood circulation. Although they may be unpleasant to eat, they are very healthy vegetables and will boost your overall health.

How To Safely Feed Your Dog Brussels Sprouts

Can Dogs Eat Brussels Sprouts 2

Many dogs do not like eating Brussels sprouts regardless of how they are prepared. Although you can feed the dog raw Brussels sprouts, it is unlikely that he will find them palatable. Cooking or roasting them will give them a good flavor. However, you should avoid cooking them in lots of fat or with a lot of seasonings. This is because lots of fat and grease will give your pooch diarrhea even if the furred friend has an iron stomach.

You can also boil the Brussels sprouts, but ensure you do not use lots of pepper or salt to season them. When picking fresh Brussels sprouts, make sure you go for those that look firm and green and are free from any brown or wilted leaves. This is because old sprouts may give your pooch loose stools. Before cooking sprouts, you must wash them thoroughly in cold water and then cut the stem off leaving a small part behind that will keep the leaves in position.

If your pooch has never eaten sprouts before, be sure to start them off with a very small portion. If you notice any kind of reaction, it means that their stomach is unable to handle this type of vegetable and you should avoid it completely in the future.

Side Effects of Excess Brussels Sprouts

Can Dogs Eat Brussels Sprouts 3

Brussels sprouts are full of minerals and vitamins, however, when consumed in excess, they can cause lots of issues to your dog. Brussels contain lots of fiber that can be good in ensuring healthy and regular bowel movements. They have a high concentration of isothiocyanate that helps intestinal muscles to get all the digested food through the intestinal tract. Extreme flatulence is caused by an excess buildup of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.

Although Brussels sprouts are healthy for your pooch, they are not a necessity because their dog food provides them with all the nutrients that they require for a healthy body. When you give your dog too many Brussels sprouts, they will experience gas, diarrhea, and bloating that will leave your pup feeling miserable and uncomfortable.

Although it may not be fun for anyone to deal with, this situation is not life-threatening or harmful. If your dog gets diarrhea from eating Brussels sprouts, you should avoid giving them. If your pooch experiences intense stomach problems like diarrhea several days after eating Brussels sprouts, you should contact your veterinarian immediately. Furthermore, if your dog has any dietary problems or allergy issues, you should not feed him any sprouts without first consulting the vet.

In Conclusion

Brussels sprouts are not only good for humans, they are also good for canines. They provide dogs with healthy minerals, vitamins, fiber, and support healthy digestion. While sprouts may be safe for dogs, they should always be served occasionally and in small quantities. Most importantly, you need to ask your veterinarian whether your dog should be given sprouts or not, especially if he has any digestive problems.

Your Chihuahuas can get pregnant during her first heat cycle. Your female Chihuahua can conceive when she enters puberty, which is usually the first heat cycle. This can occur during the 4th and 7th months. During the estrus cycle, the female is receptive to a male and this period lasts for 5 days to 3 weeks.

Just like humans, Chihuahuas usually have a small window where they can get pregnant and this is usually between day 10 and 15. The eggs will drop and the Chihuahua can easily become pregnant. Breeders are usually encouraged to wait till the 2nd heat cycle for them to pair dogs. However, your Chihuahua can still become pregnant even during the first heat even when there is no discharge.

Two different dog breeds can impregnate the Chihuahua. This is usually known as multi-sired litter. This is possible because the ovaries of female canines produce more than one ova and the eggs are available for several days. Any egg may be fertilized if your dog is mounted on day one and another one will be fertilized when it is mounted on another day by a different male dog.

Chihuahuas can be impregnated by a much larger dog. This will result in a dangerous pregnancy period and delivery. To prevent any unwanted conception, dog owners need to keep a close eye on their Chihuahua, especially when on heat.  When the hormones are in high concentration, your female dog will be receptive to whichever male that actively seeks her out. She may dart out of the house whenever the door is opened and will even try escaping through the fence in the yard.

Males will Seek out your Chihuahua when on heat. With every urination, traces of blood will be deposited and they will carry the scent of a Chihuahua that is in heat miles away. Whenever the dog owner brings the female Chihuahuas outside, it is essential to scan for any straying dogs.

Chihuahuas have a litter size of 1 to 3 pups but some may even give birth to 5 or 6 litters. Therefore, if your Chihuahua is pregnant, you must be prepared to take care of all those litters.

Signs of Pregnancy

  • The pooch will act tired, lethargic and will not be energetic
  • She will have an upset stomach and will experience light vomiting or reluctance to eat
  • The stomach will become firmer
  • The nipples tend to grow very large and recessed teats will start emerging

Timelines That You Need To Remember

  • 15-30 days after conception, the belly will be visibly swollen
  • 45 days-the x-rays can clearly show the growing puppies
  • Labor will start between 60-65 days after conception and day 63 is usually the average length of the pregnancy for most Chihuahuas.

Preparing For your Chihuahua’s Pregnancy

How Can You Tell If A Chihuahua is Pregnant 3

Your Chihuahua will carry the pregnancy 58 to 68 days. The average date of delivery will usually be after 63 days. For Chihuahuas, most physical changes will happen during the last 14 days before the actual birth date. As a pooch owner, there are many things you can do to help to keep your dog comfortable during pregnancy.

You must ensure that your pet gets the necessary nutrition to ensure the healthy growth of her pups. Her appetite will increase during pregnancy and you must ensure you provide her with the necessary nutrition.

You should also avoid over-exercising your pet because they will not have much energy and some exercises may even harm the unborn puppies. Your Chihuahua will want to build a nest for her puppies. You should assist her by finding a comfortable and safe space for her in the home.

Conclusion

From the time of conception to the time of giving birth, your Chihuahua will be pregnant for 63 days or 9 weeks. When you notice any signs of pregnancy, it is best to take your dog to a reliable and trusted vet to supervise the entire pregnancy. This is because Chihuahuas will need extra care to stay healthy during this period.

An X-ray must be performed to help confirm the puppies that your pooch will have to push out. Additionally, Chihuahuas usually have a small body and the heads of their puppies are usually big, your veterinarian will have to determine whether they can give birth normally or they will need a caesarian section.

Why Does My Dog Snort Like A Pig

#pets_tuttorial #jane_brody #pet_blog #pet_training #pet_products_reviews #best_dog_products #best_cat_products

Does your dog sometimes snort? Do you wonder whether it is a normal thing to do or whether it has a problem that might need the expert advice of a vet?

Dogs make amazing and adorable friends, but sometimes they do certain things that throw us off. One such thing is the occasional snorting sounds they make that may or may not be alarming. However, if you find yourself asking out aloud or wondering, “Why does my dog snort like a pig?” you should find answers and the following factors might help you.

Read next:

Why the Dog Snorts

Why Does My Dog Snort Like A Pig

1.Reverse Sneezing

When a dog snorts once, it should not be too much of a concern, but if it does it repeatedly, there is reason to be wary, especially if it’s a behavior picked up suddenly. Sometimes oinking, grunting, or snorting is reverse sneezing, mostly caused by soft palate irritation and throat muscle spasms.

In this case, the dog breathes too much air that it cannot handle comfortably through the nose, leading to the neck stretching out, chest expanding, and trachea narrowing.

Combining all these becomes overwhelming for the dog, leading to alarming sounds like snorting, grunting, wheezing, or coughing. The noises are distressing, or they might seem that way, but your dog is not in any danger in the majority of the cases.

2.Type of Breed

Dog snorting is also a part of life for some dog breeds, especially those with pushed-in faces such as the brachycephalic breed, the Bulldog, Shih Tzu, the Pug, Pekingese, and others. The one thing these breeds have in common is broad flat-shaped wide skulls. Their tracheas are narrower than those of other dog breeds, and they have nasal passages with smaller openings, with longer and softer palates.

The pushed-in face dog breeds have much higher chances of getting respiratory illnesses because of their skull, nasal, and facial structures. The illnesses include pneumonia, respiratory distress, and overheating.

When these dog breeds exert themselves into intensive exercising, their breathing becomes noisy, especially during the warm weather. Excitement also leads to snorting while they snore when asleep. Severe abnormality of their airways leads to coughing, gagging, or vomiting.

3.Allergies

Allergies could also make the dog start snorting like a pig. They could also make the same noises if they have nasal mites, infections, or a foreign object stuck in the nose, such as a grass blade.

4.Obesity

Weight gain could also lead to difficulty breathing, which in turn might make your dog snort.

What to Do If Your Dog Starts Snorting Like a Pig

Why Does My Dog Snort Like A Pig

  • If your dog does not belong to the breeds with pushed-in faces and suddenly starts snorting, it could be going through early signs of a nasal infection. If it does not stop after a while, you should contact the vet for an appointment. Chances are it could have something stuck on the nasal canal or trachea. Further tests that might include x-rays and probably minor surgery will help clear the air.
  • You should also check the surroundings for any allergens, especially if the dog sneezes, has wet eyes, and snorts. Allergens most common causes are pollen, dust, smoke, and perfumes. Weather changes could also make the dog have labored breathing, leading to sneezing and snorting.
  • During the cold weather, keep your dog in warm conditions. During the warm weather, ensure that the room temperature stays at controlled levels, and the ventilation is good enough for you and the dog.
  • If your dog gains excessive weight and finds it difficult to breathe, you should check the diet and reduce it if possible take the dog for regular exercises to cut down on the weight and free the airways.
  • Instead of using a collar when walking the dog with snorting issues, use a harness to minimize pressure on the neck.

Wrapping It Up

In so many ways, dogs are like humans. We get occasional breathing problems and make funny noises due to nasal blockages. Some of the causes could be allergens, cold temperatures, humidity, foreign objects into or noses and more. Sometimes a dog snorts as a way of sneezing. Other times, it could be due to a much bigger problem.

Whatever the case, you should monitor the snorting and take the dog to a vet if it concerns you or if it goes on for longer than expected. Remember that, an environment that does not suit you, might not suit your dog as well.

Ways to Stop Dogs From Peeing on Your Lawn

#pets_tuttorial #jane_brody #pet_blog #pet_training #pet_products_reviews #best_dog_products #best_cat_products

Imagine spending all the free time to keep your yard lush and clean, only to have your neighbor’s dog use it as its peeing ground. It is frustrating and annoying, and the first thing that would probably come into your mind is to throw something at the dog or match to your neighbor’s home in anger.

Some neighbors may assume that it is all normal and a dog thing. Some might call it co-existing. However, a dog’s pee creates yellow or brown dead spots on the grass that look ugly. Instead of resorting to anger-driven measures, you can use the following few techniques to stop the neighbor’s dog from peeing in your yard to maintain its beauty.

Things To Do To Stop Your Neighbor’s Dog From Peeing In Your Yard

How To Stop Neighbors Dog From Peeing In My Yard

Talk to your neighbor

Before you think of doing anything to keep your neighbor’s dog off your yard, you should try to have a cordial meeting with the dog’s owner-your neighbor. A friendly chat without losing your cool may bring solutions on how you two can handle the situation. It may even surprise you that talking to the dog’s owner are all you need without resorting to other measures. If that fails, then you take the following steps to try to alleviate the problem.

Use repellants to Eliminate Any Form of Enticing Smells

Dogs like to mark their territory, and one way they do this is by frequently peeing on the same spot. A specific smell may attract them to a particular area they choose to carry out their businesses. Once one dog picks a place, the pheromones may attract other neighbor dogs to follow suit.

You can prevent this by eliminating any enticing smells in your yard. The best way to do this is by using repellants. Spray a neutralizing and repellant agent such as vinegar on the spot and around the yard perimeter. For effective results, do this daily but avoid spraying it over the whole lawn to prevent damage.

Likewise, you can also baking soda that has the same effects as vinegar. Other repellants that you can use to keep the dog away include citrus, ammonia, and chili pepper. If you think the smell of the current fertilizer you are using in the yard is attracting your neighbor’s dog, you should change it. If this fails, you can take the following steps to bring the situation to a stop.

Eliminate or hide Attractions

Boredom and curiosity can lead dogs into other people’s lawns. If they see things in your yard that they do not see in theirs, the temptation to come around may be too overwhelming. Some of the things that may attract your neighbor’s dog include garbage, BBQ, smell, or sight of food, and water points.

To prevent the dog from coming over, cover the garbage cans, feed your pets indoors, keep away your pet’s toys, treats and kibbles, clean after your dog, and cover water bowls strewn around the yard. If you have a female dog, you might have to consider spaying it to avoid attraction to a neighbor’s dog.

Put up a fence

How To Stop Neighbors Dog From Peeing In My Yard

A fence around your yard is enough to keep off wandering dogs and unwelcome people into your compound. Fencing is a clear sign that your home is out of limits for anyone other than those residing there.

Put up motion-operated sprinklers

Motion-operated sprinklers may not go well with your neighbors, but they will definitely keep dogs and any other wandering animals away from your yard. Ensure the sprinklers target specific areas of your yard.

Put up a scarecrow

A simple scarecrow may not scare away the dog, but if you put up a motion-detecting spooky thing up on the yard, it might work to scare the animal away from peeing on your yard.

Change the landscape

You can also get creative and change the current landscape to one that does not appeal to dogs. Some of the suggestions are:-

  • Shrubs such as Coleus Canina around the yard that have smell dogs do not like.
  • Sharp gravel around the yard that may hurt the dog’s paws
  • Thorny plants such as vines around the perimeter of the yard
  • Pinecone mulch, which has the same effects as sharp gravel around the yard perimeter

Wrapping It Up

Dogs are lovable pets, and they make us all happy. We also love to see our neighbors enjoying the company of their dogs just as much as anyone else. However, when a neighbor’s dog breaks all kinds of the protocol to pee on our yards, it is frustrating because of the ugly and unsightly spots left behind by the urine. The above tips will deter any stray dog from coming to mess up your lush lawns.
